H&D is Harry and David ’cause my mother brought me a box of the most delicious Royal Riviera pears from their online store. They were starting to turn from Christmas time so I threw them in the Cuisinart and pureed them, peal (not core) and all. (The sauce quickly turned brown by the way.) Anyway I have made applesauce bread so I thought…why not pear bread?
I was headed to my first mommy’s-play-date with M and decided to make this to bring – thinking I wa going to “WOW” them….ah vanity, the ladies all stepped up to the plate and also had brought some yummy goodies (see post here).
I looked online for pear bread and saw some options – I tweaked this recipe for applesauce bread, cut down on the oil and added a few items. I then covered with a simple glaze.
AND BACK TO THE PEAR BREAD RECIPE!
Prep time: 10 minutes, Cook time:25-45 min, Level: Easy
3 Cups of flour
1 Cup of white sugar
1 Cup (packed) brown sugar
1/2 cup of veg oil
2 cups of pear puree (or applesauce)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/2 cup of sour cream or buttermilk (don’t have buttermilk? click here)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease and flour two 9 X 5 inch loaf pans (or I used a fancy bunt cake pan)
Beat together eggs, sugar and oil. Blend in pear puree and then sour cream or buttermilk. Mix in dry ingredients, vanilla, cinnamon. Stir in chopped nuts. Pour into prepared pans.
Bake for 45 minutes (check to see that toothpick inserted into middle of loaf is clean). Cool on wire racks.
1/2 cup of softened butter
2 cups of powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla or pear extract
blend all the above ingredients in a mixer on medium until smooth. Pour over cooled bread. (FYI – I added a few tablespoons of pear puree and while the taste was good, the sauce “broke” – not sure why).
